EXIF Spy Description
Even if taken with a mobile phone, pictures come with different embedded details such as camera make and model, size specifications, or color depth, values which are known as EXIF. A simple way to view these details for pictures is to access the properties panel, but the task is a lot easier when relying on applications like EXIF Spy.
Simple visuals quickly get you up and running
The installer is done before you realize, so you can quickly enjoy all the application has to offer. However, before this is possible you need to make sure that .NET Framework is already on your computer, even though it’s a default feature in modern Windows iterations.
On the visual side of things, all functions are wrapped around a clean interface, which doesn’t really pose any accommodation problems. A side panel makes navigation easy, letting you jump through system or removable drives with a few mouse clicks. Detected pictures under different formats are enlisted in a different panel, and picture selection reveals it in a larger preview area.
Details shown on the spot
Selecting a picture from the list also shows all gathered EXIF details in a dedicated panel. These are structured in categories for general file info, file format specifications, as well as composition. Values are stored in an intuitive table with a couple of columns for attribute type and its corresponding value.
Sadly, there’s no possibility to edit any of these values like you would with regular Windows methods. What’s more, there’s no built-in save function, so any details of interest need to be written down because values can’t even be copied to clipboard.
On an ending note
Bottom line is that EXIF Spy is a straightforward tool with which to analyze EXIF data for pictures. The visual design is clean and quickly gets you up and running. Sadly, you can’t generate a file report, nor can you copy any existing details, let alone edit them.
