ExtractData Description

Depending on the domain of activity, text documents can contain quite the variety of info, such as personal details, addresses, and more. Chances are you need a particular set in your tasks, and it can be a pain to manually look for and grab them from multiple files. Luckily, you can rely on specialized applications like ExtractData to get the job done.

Perks of a portable app

First of all, it’s a good idea to install Java Runtime Environment on your computer if it’s not already there, otherwise the program doesn’t function. However, ExtractData itself isn’t bundled inside a setup package, so you can carry it with you to use on nearly any kind of machine equipped with Java, without affecting stability.
On the bright side of things, the application comes with a couple of example files on which you can test its features, although original files are not modified. You can choose to work on multiple files at a time, and these are enlisted by path and name, while selection fills up the preview section. Note that only TXT files are supported.

Set parameters for data extraction

Once a file is loaded, the extraction parameters become available so you can define the entire operation. There’s a drop-down menu fitted with a whole range of extraction rules, such as locations, addresses, emails, names, and a lot more, as well as the possibility to edit them to extract custom sets.
Additional options need to be configured as well. These include the location of the file with extracted content, whether or not to search whole words only, creating a new file or appending to the last one, length limits for extracted data, characters to ignore, as well as character conversion. Extraction is done at the press of a button, with a result sheet delivered.

In conclusion

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that ExtractData is a practical solution when you need to gather a whole bunch of details from multiple documents. Batch processing is supported, while the list of preset rules is sure to meet most types of extraction demands.
