EyeDefender is a lightweight Windows application built specifically for reminding you to take breaks from the computer in order to rest your eyes.
Its purpose is to help you prevent health problems, such as Computer Vision Syndrome and Repetitive Strain Injury, that may appear in case you spend a lot of time in front of the computer without taking the necessary breaks.
This unobtrusive tool runs quietly in the system tray until called upon when it reveals several configuration settings to tinker with.
EyeDefender gives you the possibility to set the time interval between the breaks and enter the break duration.
What’s more, you can set up the notification parameters and make the program create a slideshow using the pictures from a user-defined folder, specifying the slide duration, and applying transition effects, display some training exercises useful for relaxing your eyes, activate a default screensaver, or show a popup balloon in the system tray.
Last but not least, you can make the utility run at Windows startup and set up a master password for making sure other users cannot modify the application’s settings or uninstall it.
During our testing we have noticed that EyeDefender carries out a task very quickly and without errors. It leaves a minimal footprint on system resources, so the overall performance of the computer is not affected.
