Fasta Description
Running frequently used programs and files can easily be done from the desktop in case you created corresponding shortcuts. However, there are multiple other methods of launching these items, which can also come in the form of third-party programs. A suitable example is Fasta, a lightweight launcher which saves you a great deal of time.
Advanced alternative to the Run tool
You first need to go through the setup process to get it perfectly deployed on your PC. No restart is required, with the possibility to have it launched right away to see what it's all about. As soon as you do this, a slim toolbar shows up on your desktop, with an input field covering most of the space, close button, and access to the settings panel.
You're quickly tempted to believe the application's core function is to find files of interest, but it's not a search tool. It acts in a similar method to the default Windows Run tool. It's fitted with a powerful search engine which is capable of detecting programs you punch in, and launching them when you hit Enter.
Configure aliases for faster access
Accessing the settings panel makes it possible to tweak behavior to your advantage. In other words, you can create custom aliases for files which might not be properly detected by the application. You simply need to associate a name with a file, and writing the alias in the program's input field launches the associated item, which is pretty practical.
There's not really a restriction to file types, with the application also being used to quickly jump to specific web pages in your default web browser. If you consider it enhances your daily workflow, it's possible to make it run with Windows, show an icon in the tray area, and even configure a global hotkey to instantly bring up the run field. It can remember history, typed URLs, and integrate in the Start Menu.
To end with
Taking everything into consideration, Fasta manages to live up to expectations, coming as a powerful, universal launcher which requires little configuration time and effort. It's capable of detecting all installed programs, and can also be used to open web pages from the comfort of your desktop.
