FavIconizer Description
FavIconizer is a tiny and portable application with a very simple purpose: it scans favorited links in Internet Explorer to find out whether they have a Favorite icon or not, in order to make any necessary adjustments in this mater.
Portability advantages
Since installation is not required, you can drop the executable file in any part of the hard disk and just click it to run.
There is also the possibility to save FavIconizer to a USB flash disk or similar removable storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.
What's more, the app does not create new entries in the Windows registry or Start menu, leaving no traces behind after its removal.
Straightforward interface and options
As far as the GUI is concerned, FavIconizer adopts a single window and provides direct access to all options. The "what you see is what you get" concept clearly applies here, since there are no hidden features available.
Two buttons can be pressed to find all favicons missing in the links, and for obtaining the favicons for all URLs in the favorites folder, respectively. The scanning process shows the currently verified URL, along with the total number of links available. Once all favorited links have the icon, the app pops up a message dialog to inform users about this. The third button lets users open the Favorites folder in Windows Explorer without leaving the program's interface.
Evaluation and conclusion
The tool does not put a strain on PC performance, since it requires low CPU and RAM to run properly. It finishes scanning jobs quickly and fills in the missing favicons just as fast. We have not come across any issues throughout our evaluation, since it did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. All in all, FavIconizer serves its purpose and can be used by anyone.
