File Extension Changer Description
File Extension Changer is a file renamer dedicated to extensions, able to carry out operations in bulk. This is a simple-to-use and portable software application that features just a couple of standard options which can be figured out even by inexperienced users.
It adopts a user-friendly interface with an embedded file explorer to help you navigate disk directories and locate the files whose extensions you want to modify.
Set the old and new file extension
You can check out the file, type, size and date of modification for each item, sort files by any of these columns, as well as to open a Command Prompt instance or Windows Explorer window in the current location. In order to rename file extensions, all you have to do is specify the old and new format in two boxes.
Rename the extensions of all files in the current location
Unlike most file renaming tools, this program doesn't require you to select the files you want to process. Instead, it takes into account all files from the current directory matching the old file extension you supplied.
No setup necessary
Since there is no installation pack involved, you can save File Extension Changer's executable file anywhere on the hard drive or on a USB flash disk, and just click it to launch the application on any computer without any previous setup. It shouldn't modify Windows registry settings.
Evaluation and conclusion
We haven't encountered any type of issues in our tests as far as stability is concerned, thanks to the fact that the utility didn't freeze, crash or prompt error dialogs. It finished tasks fast while remaining light on system resources consumption.
All in all, File Extension Changer delivers a fast and effective method for renaming file extensions in batch mode, and it can be easily handled by anyone. However, it doesn't contain advanced filters.
