Filename Checker Description
With the aid of Filename Checker you can conduct advanced file renaming operations for multiple items in bulk mode. Although it may sound complicated to work with, this application actually contains some intuitive options for all user levels. It doesn't require installation.
Portable tool with a simple GUI
Since it's packed in portable format, you can save Filename Checker's program files anywhere on the disk and simply click the executable to launch the utility. There is also the possibility to save it to a USB flash drive, in order to directly run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers. Plus, it doesn't modify Windows registry settings.
As far as the interface is concerned, Filename Checker adopts a standard window that provides direct access to all available options.
Configure file renaming preferences
After selecting the directory whose files you want to take into account for the renaming operation, you can enable recursive mode, indicate a file mask, as well as ask the tool to check the length and space in file names, or make all characters uppercase or lowercase (or both).
In addition, it can make all file extensions lowercase, use double space or underscore, replace space by underscore, or remove double characters. You can also replace custom parts of the file name with something else. Search results indicate whether or not files are renamed, must be renamed, or don't have to be renamed.
Evaluation and conclusion
There were no stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the utility didn't hang, crash or prompt error messages. It carried out scan file renaming jobs in reasonable time while remaining light on system resources, so it didn't hog system performance.
All in all, Filename Checker offers an effective solution to renaming multiple files in bulk, backed by many practical options.
