Filename Counter Description
Filename Counter is a straightforward piece of software designed to count all characters from all file names in a specified directory. It doesn't include any kind of complicated options or configuration parameters, making it suitable for all user levels, even those inexperienced with file management programs.
Compatibility issues with newer Windows
Before proceeding any further, you should know that this software tool hasn't received updates for a very long time and we've experienced some compatibility issues with the latest edition of Windows. On top of that, it works only if you have an older version of .NET Framework installed, making it inconvenient for modern hardware configurations.
Simple interface and options
Setting it up doesn't take long, since there are no unfamiliar buttons included. When it comes the interface, Filename Counter adopts a window that's just big enough to comprise two buttons for indicating a directory and counting the characters, along with a small area for returning the count results.
Count all characters from file names
All you have to do is search the computer for the target folder and click the button to count all characters from all file names available. This task is instantly performed and the result is immediately displayed.
Unfortunately, the application doesn't feature additional settings. For example, it's not possible to exclude specific file names from the counting job. Moreover, you cannot preview the file names.
Evaluation and conclusion
The program didn't put a strain on the machine's performance in our tests, running on a low amount of CPU and RAM. It carried out tasks swiftly and didn't cause the operating system to hang, crash or show errors in the meantime.
On the other hand, Filename Counter comes bundled with a very short set of options and has compatibility issues with newer Windows versions. Other than that, it delivers a simple solution to counting all names from all files in a given folder.
