First Grade Words Description
The English language can be a difficult one to learn, with many rules and just as many exceptions to those rules. First Grade Words is an application that allows users to view a display of multiple, basic level words and their common usage, along with a visual prompt and a sound file.
Less of a program and more of a slideshow, that provides very little to control
Unfortunately, First Grade Words is not much of an application is more of a PowerPoint presentation with audio mixed in. Users have almost no control over how it operates and instead it just lists each of its words in turn, the main page displays all the words included, but provides no way to skip to a relevant one.
Users have poor control over how the slideshow operates, clicking the main screen starts the next page, but the mechanic to go back is barely implemented. It is possible, via right clicking and using the contextual menu to try and go backwards, but it often doesn't work.
No settings or additional options, or any way to edit how the program operates
Given the application that provides sound files for each word, there are no ways to edit the volume directly within First Grade Words. A lack of options or settings of any kind is a running theme throughout First Grade Words, and it causes several issues. No mute function, no automated slide function and no way to repeat the sound of a particular slide.
It is hard to respect First Grade Words as a proper application, while it is semi advanced for a PowerPoint slide in the regard that it offers sound files included, as well as some animations. Unfortunately, for First Grade Words to be really be considered a program, it needs some basic things, like a proper menu to select a specific word.
A nice idea, but in reality is nothing more than a slightly above average slideshowÂ
All in all, First Grade Words is barely more than users could create themselves in a slideshow and while the application is free, it is not unrealistic to expect more from a program. Users could create a slideshow with their own specific words, and arguably, if they are well versed in PowerPoint, create an even better one. Ultimately, First Grade Words is sub par and a limited teaching tool at best.
