Flutter Description
Flutter is a very daring initiative that aims to facilitate the control of various players via webcam gestures. With its aid, you can pause playback or navigate between items of a playlist from a distance.
It is especially useful in scenarios where you’re watching a movie on your computer or laptop and want to pause it without necessarily making a trip to the PC. All you need in order to make proper use of it is a simple, unpretentious webcam.
Flutter installs in just seconds and immediately becomes available inside the system tray menu. It is recommended that you connect the webcam to the PC prior to its deployment, since at first launch the program automatically searches for such devices and triggers an error in their absence.
With Flutter, you can control the playback process of various popular players, including Windows Media Player, Winamp, iTunes, Spotify, VLC and even PowerPoint, as well as online video portals such as YouTube, Grooveshark, Netflix and Pandora through a Chrome extension that needs to be installed separately (a shortcut to the add-on is provided in the system tray context menu).
The steps you need to take in order to activate the application for a certain player involve accessing the system tray control panel, from where you need to choose the preferred player and then to enable Flutter by left-clicking it once – the icon should become brightly colored (it is gray when disabled).
At this point, you should be getting a message that Flutter has been activated for the specified player in a small prompt next to the system tray area and it should be ok to start experimenting with it.
Please note that the distance necessary for it to work is at least one yard, with no more than five yards coverage. For instance, in order to stop the playback process, you are required to take position in front of the camera at a reasonable distance and raise your hand.
An extensive tutorial on gestures is available in the program’s control panel, describing exactly the steps you should take in order to gain control over a player.
Overall, Flutter made a really good impression on us. It is the first initiative of this type that we’ve had the pleasure of testing and we’re giving it a big thumbs up.
