Font Properties Editor is a simple application that gives you the possibility to modify font properties, as the name suggests. It's not designed for changing the font itself.

Customize TrueType and OpenType font properties

The interface is based on a wizard, where you have to follow a few easy steps. The tool offers support for TrueType and OpenType fonts (TTF and OTF file type).
After indicating a file using the file browser (the drag-and-drop method is unsupported), you can select the font language and view the font family name, version, weight and style, along with its PostScript and unique names.

It's possible to edit the designer and link, foundry type and link, as well as to test the modifications before proceeding to the next step, where you can view the font's copyright notice and trademark information based on legal advice.
Moreover, you can write a font description or load a template text from file, specify the URL and test it, select the font embedding level (restricted, print and preview, or editable), set the four-letter vendor ID, or ask the program to optimize the name table size.
Another noteworthy aspect is that Font Properties Editor doesn't apply modifications to the original file, so it's not necessary to create backups beforehand. Instead, it enables you to save a new font file by indicating the saving directory and file name.

Evaluation and conclusion

As we expected, it had minimal impact on computer performance, using low CPU and RAM. No error dialogs popped up and it didn't freeze or crash. Although it hasn't been updated for a long time, Font Properties Editor still works on newer Windows versions. To conclude, this utility facilitates a user-friendly wizard UI for quickly editing font properties.
