FTP-X is a simple-to-use software application that enables you to connect to remote websites via FTP. Unlike richer tools like FileZilla, SmartFTP or CuteFTP, this utility has only the basic options required for establishing connections to perform file transfers. It's particularly geared toward beginners.

Installing FTP-X is a speedy task that shouldn't give you any trouble, thanks to the fact that the wizard steps contains only intuitive options. You are greeted by a clear-cut interface made of a large window with dual panes for the local and server host, respectively.

Connect to remote hosts and transfer files

Remote connections may be quickly set by entering the host address, user name and password, and the tool can be asked to remember these credentials for future logins.
Once linked, you can explore the local and remote directories and seamlessly copy files and folders via drag-and-drop support. It's also possible to upload files to a specific URL. Apart from the fact that you can log out and log back in using different credentials, there are no other notable options available here.

Evaluation and conclusion

We haven't encountered any issues in our tests as far as stability is concerned, thanks to the fact that the program didn't freeze, crash or prompt error messages. It left a small footprint on computer performance, running on low CPU and RAM.
Although it's not backed by comprehensive options and configuration settings, FTP-X offers a simple and straightforward solution to connecting to remote websites via FTP, and it can be easily handled by anyone.
