GenFTP Description
With the Internet gaining considerable ground over the years and reaching most computers, various sharing and storing services developed for online use. A common type is represented by FTP servers, and with the help of specialized applications like GenFTP you can easily upload and download files from such a server.
Create a list of FTP servers
Needless to say that you need an active Internet connection to be able to connect to the target server. The site manager shows up on first launch so that you can configure initial connections. On the bright side of things, you can add more servers and save them for easy access later on. Requirement fields represent a label, the address, as well as your credentials.
The application’s main window is a dual-pane explorer, one of which is the FTP server you connect to. Navigation can be done on the spot by browsing through folders, or you can use the address field to paste or write down custom folder paths. A couple of view options allow you to choose between a list or detailed display of files and folders.
File transfer and management options
Transferring files is easily done through drag and drop between panes. However, you can also take the time to select multiple files from either ends and then choose the desired operation. Sadly, there’s no possibility to create hot folders, set up synchronization, or have files automatically processed at specific time intervals.
Note that you have full control over files on your computer, and on the server if enabled. This means you can delete, copy, move, and even open files in the default viewer. New folders can be created on the spot for better management.
To sum it up
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that GenFTP is a lightweight, practical application you can use to upload and download files to and from a FTP server. You can save a list of multiple sources for quick connection, while the whole operation is easily performed by individuals of all levels of experience.
