GoNest 2D

GoNest 2D is a nesting software application designed to generate optimized layouts and reduce scrap made by 2D rectangular cutting processes, whether they are Guillotine cutting or nested.
It's made for users who work with glass cutting, sheet metal layout and fabrication, wood working, and other types of similar activities.

Simple setup and interface

After a rapid setup operation that doesn't require special attention, you are welcomed by a seemingly outdated interface.
In the main app window you can open .sht-formatted files with sheets or coils (rolls) and study the raw panels and parts when it comes to the panel, type, length, width, quantity, price, priority, notes, whether the parts can be rotated or not, maximum quantity, and if the parts are rectangular or circular.

Investigate and export information

It's possible to append as many sheets as you want, examine the total area, quantity and cost, delete all records or just the selected ones, remove empty rows, and print labels.
Data can be exported to CSV or Excel files, with or without column titles. What's more, you can import information from the same types of files we previously mentioned, select the Excel sheet to take into account, and copy or append data to the database. It can be overwritten to the original file or saved to a new one.

Arrange stock layouts and customize app settings

In addition, GoNest 2D lets you save the current profile to file to use it in future projects, manually or automatically arrange the stock layouts by taking into account the order of utilization or the raw panels, export layouts data to HTML, CSV, AutoCAD DXF or G code files, as well as investigate and print reports with the raw panels and pieces.
When it comes to program settings, you can select between nesting, Guillotine and rolling mode, adjust the optimization level, change the measurement unit, enable scrap and piece racks, customize band and grinding options, set up the panels type, define the length edge and width, personalize colors for the raw panels, parts and scrap, indicate the DXF font size, and so on.

Evaluation and conclusion

We haven't come across any stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that GoNest 2D didn't hang, crash or display error notifications. It generated optimized layouts and exported information swiftly while remaining low on system resource consumption, so it didn't hamper the PC's performance.
Although its interface is not that impressive to look at, GoNest 2D proves to be a reliable assistant for optimizing layouts to reduce scrap made by 2D rectangular cutting processes.
