Google News Reader Description
The world is constantly changing and with the evolution in technology you can stay up to date with the latest news in events around the globe. From TV to radio, or the Internet you are able to access the latest headlines. This becomes more comfortable with the help of desktop enhancements such as Google News Reader.
Compact and clean interface
The application introduces itself in a compact and polished window, with quick access to major categories. From top stories and world events to entertainment, health or even sci/tech, a single click is enough to receive latest entries in the specific subject.
Quick access to latest entries
A small paragraph gives you brief info on the selected article. The latest ten entries are displayed and you can easily scroll through them. What's more, a few commands give you the possibility to read the whole article, which opens up in your default web browser, or bookmark it.
Furthermore, and option lets you send it via email, if your credentials are provided. However, the account type is not specified and even with a Google account we couldn't get it to work. This would have come in handy in certain circumstances.
Good but far from being a pro
If you're on the run, the application lets you save articles of interest using a bookmarks manager. Preferred items are saved in a separate menu, but there is no possibility to sort them out, nor is the parent category displayed.
The application is pretty simple overall, but with a little something to be desired. Unfortunately, there is no implemented option to enable alerts, so you need to constantly check preferred categories for updates.
In conclusion
All things considered, Google News Reader manages to get most of the job properly done, even though it's missing a thing or two. It takes little space on your desktop and manages to deliver latest entries in nearly any area of interest. It's a shame the email option needs a little work, but for personal interest it's worth keeping around.
