Grab Text is a lightweight Windows application whose purpose is to help users extract text from any utility, file, website, or document placed on their desktop.

Seamless setup process and minimal environment

You are required to go through a pretty smooth installation process, which does not come with any unpleasant surprises. The program runs quietly in the system tray until called upon when it reveals several dedicated parameters to tinker with.
Moreover, the interface is quite intuitive and simple, thus allowing all types of users to easily find their way around it.

Grab text, save it to a custom location or e-mail it

Grab Text gives you the possibility to manually select the area of your screen from where the utility grabs the text or choose an active window, and lets you preview all the collected data in a dedicated pane.
The tool is able to open the grabbed text in a new file (TXT or RTF) for future editing operations, as well as print or send the resulted document by e-mail.

Save images and use keyboard shortcuts

What’s more, you can copy the text to the Clipboard and paste it into other third-party utilities, and save images to BMP, JPEG, GIF, TIF, or PNG file format.
When it comes to configuration settings, you can make the utility run at Windows startup (for all users on the system), and use hotkeys for a better control over the entire process (they cannot be reassigned).

Performance and conclusion

During our testing we have noticed that Grab Text carries out a task quickly, provides very good output results, and no errors showed up throughout the entire process. It does not eat up a lot of CPU and memory, so the performance of the computer is not affected.
All in all, Grab Text offers a simple yet efficient software solution when it comes to helping you convert any file placed on your desktop to editable text, and is suitable for all types of users, regardless of their experience level.
