Hallucinate Description
Hallucinate is a small software application developed specifically for helping you hide sensitive files inside images. The photos that carry the secret items can be opened just like any other pictures stored in your computer.
It can be deployed on all Windows versions out there, provided that you have the Java working environment installed on the target computer.
Benefit brought by portable utilities
Hallucinate can be kept on pen drives or other portable devices. Plus, you can run it directly on the target system from the USB flash drive.
A double-click on the executable file is all it takes to gain access to the program’s interface. You can also take advantage of the fact that it does not write entries in your Windows registry and leave other configuration files behind. You may get rid of it by deleting the files that you have downloaded from the Internet.
Clean and simple looks
Hallucinate reveals a straightforward design that incorporates all configuration parameters into a single window. A help manual is not included in the package. However, you can set up the encryption options on your own because they look easy to work with.
File encryption capabilities
The application offers you the possibility to select the file that you want to hide inside of an image. Items can be imported in the working environment using the built-in browse button (the drag-and-drop support is not implemented).
What’s more, you are allowed to set the image quality (e.g. best, better, good, fair, bad), import a custom picture from your collection that will embed the target file, view information about the available and needed size values, as well as choose the saving directory, output filename, and output file format (BMP or PNG file format).
Decrypting the hidden file can be done by simply specifying the target photo and picking the location where the item is stored. On the downside, Hallucinate does not offer support for password protection.
Tests have shown that the utility carries out a task quickly and without errors. The final pictures are not large so they do not raise suspicions to other users. It remains light on system resources.
Bottom line
To sum things up, Hallucinate has to offer some simple features for helping you conceal sensitive files within photos, and is suitable especially for less experienced users.
