HotShot Description
HotShot is an application that enables you to configure any installed or portable programs to quickly launch by triggering keyboard shortcuts. It runs in the systray and features intuitive options for all types of users, even those less experienced with such tools.
Old, yet functional utility
Before proceeding any further, you should know that the app hasn't been updated for a long time and, although it gets successfully installed on newer Windows versions, it doesn't work properly.
The fact that HotShot is outdated is clear by the look of its installer. Setting it up takes minimal and effort, since there are no special options or software requirements involved. However, the oldschool appearance with the fullscreen window and gradient background color reminds us of Windows 98.
Runs in the systray
Once launched, it gets integrated into the taskbar notifications area to facilitate fast access to its options while remaining non-intrusive and enabling you to carry on with your work without interruptions.
The main configuration panel has a simple design and layout, along with a list with all letters displayed in alphabetical order, similar to a phonebook.
Set hotkeys to launch installed or portable programs
In order to assign a program to a hotkey, you can click the letter from this list, locate the app's executable (.exe) or batch (.bat) file with the aid of the file browser, as well as save settings and close the window. In addition, you can input command-line parameters to extend the program's functionality, as well as specify the initial directory.
Evaluation and conclusion
Too bad that HotShot hasn't received updates for such a long time that it no longer works properly on later Windows models. It remained in beta development stage. However, you can still use it on older OSes if you're looking for a straightforward solution to launch any applications using keyboard shortcuts.
