HTMLShield Description
HTMLShield is a lightweight Windows application whose purpose is to help you password-protect HTML files and decrypt them via the program’s interface.
Drop it on portable devices
The portable running mode makes this utility the perfect candidate for being stored on USB flash drives. Uninstalling it means only deleting the files that you have downloaded from the Internet.
Simple looks
The tool reveals a simple GUI that integrates basic security features. You cannot find a help manual embedded in the package but the dedicated parameters are easy to work with, so you are going to invest minimal effort into securing your HTML files.
The intuitive feature pack makes it ideal especially for less experienced users, who don’t want to spend their time going through lengthy and difficult security tweaks.
Encryption/decryption settings
HTMLShield allows you to select the HTML file that you want to encrypt. The file can be added in the working environment using browsing options (you cannot rely on the drag-and-drop support).
The program lets you secure your documents by setting up a password. In order to decrypt the files, you need to open the items via the utility’s interface and provide the correct password.
Where it falls short
HTMLShield implements only basic security features and it shows. There’s no support for batch processing, which means you are not allowed to password-protect multiple HTML files at the same time.
The characters of the passwords are not hidden behind asterisks so anyone who is close to your desktop can view your password and easily decrypt the sensitive data.
Bottom line
All things considered, HTMLShield provides a simplistic approach for helping you protect your HTML files against unauthorized viewing. However, the application has many features to implement until it can be called a professional and reliable security tool.
