Image Recognition Description

There’s a high chance you spend a considerable time looking for a certain picture in your collection, especially now that anyone can take tons of pictures with their phones. To help out, Image Recognition comes with a complex recognition algorithm to help you identify the image you’re looking for inside a large gallery.

Advantages of a portable app

On the bright side of things, you can benefit from what the application has to offer as soon as download is done, because there’s no setup involved. This makes it possible to carry it around on a thumb drive in case you need to use it on other computers. However, it relies on .NET Framework to function, so you need to make sure it is a part of the PC you’re running it on.
The interface is pretty simplistic, but it can create a bit of confusion at first. Before search becomes effective, you need to create a library based on a folder. You can load just the root, or choose to include subfolders as well. Moreover, the list can be saved to file for later use, because you start from scratch every time the application is launched.

Find duplicates based on a source picture

However, it can take some time for the library to be scanned, so it’s best to give the application some time. The status bar informs you when it’s done and how many items are loaded, but there’s no possibility to access a preview function, or at least a list of all files.
Searching might leave you a little disappointed, not because the process, but you need to use the picture you’re looking for as input rule. Results are shown in a dedicated panel according to match likelihood, with an option to delete specific pictures on the spot. Interaction brings up the picture in the default viewer.

A few last words

To sum it up, Image Recognition isn’t really a program to locate pictures of interest, but rather a method of identifying duplicate pictures inside a large collection. It can be used on the go, and even though loading the library can take some time, duplicates, and possible matches are instantly displayed.
