Index.dat Suite Portable

This is the portable edition of Index.dat Suite, a simple-to-use and practical tool designed to help you view data saved by Internet Explorer in Index.dat files.

Portability advantages

Since there is no installation involved, you can drop the app directory in any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to run.
There is also the possibility to save Index.dat Suite to a USB flash disk or other mass storage device, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.
An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry does not get updated with new entries, and no extra files are created on the disk without your consent.

Straightforward interface

The GUI is quite user-friendly. By default, Index.dat Suite looks into all hard drives, but you can select a particular target. Scan results shows the full path for each Index.dat file.

It is possible to export the results list to file for closer inspection, ignore selected entries from future scans, copy file paths to the Clipboard, as well as to view Index.dat content using a built-in or external viewer.

Conclusion

The app is very light on the system resources, since it runs on low CPU and memory. There were no kind of issues throughout our testing, as the program did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. It is not necessarily appealing in the visual department, but Index.dat Suite offers a simple method to detecting and inspecting Index.dat files.
