Even Windows comes with a slim recorder, but you can also rely on specialized applications like infallsoft Sound Recorder to also adjust quality and save to different formats.

Visually appealing and easy to use

Once installed, process which takes little time, you can launch the application to check out its recording capabilities. Needless to say that you need to have a microphone plugged in to be able to capture external sound. Recording speaker audio is possible too, but you need to manually select stereo mix as your default system recording device.
The application puts quite the emphasis on the visual design. Although the window is pretty classic, custom textures are used, and cool button animations on mouseover. The general design is rather intuitive, and there’s no trouble accommodating with the drop-down menus, browse dialogs, and trigger functions you encounter.

Good, but far from being a pro

You get to select the recording device from a drop-down menu. Sadly, there’s no quick access option to the default system audio panel to switch to stereo mix for speaker sound recording, and there’s no option available in the device drop-down menu in this regard. The input source volume is also selected from a drop-down menu.
Unfortunately, the application doesn’t really shine when it comes to file support. In other word, you’re only able to save your recorded files as either WAV or WMA. Unlike Windows Sound Recorder, you can adjust the quality of your recording. A destination needs to be specified as well.

In conclusion

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that infallsoft Sound Recorder is far from offering a professional set of tools to capture sound. There’s no option to use silence detection, while files you can generate out of your recording sessions leave much to be desired. Overall, it’s just a small step forward from the Windows audio recorder tool.
