iVol Description
iVol is a lightweight Windows freebie created to allow users adjust volume using the mouse wheel.
Although a multimedia keyboard can do this much easier, iVol lends a hand to users who want to quickly adjust volume from their mouse.
Once installed and launched, the app places an icon in the Windows System Tray and provides two different ways to control the volume.
First, you can turn volume up and down by pressing the Shift key and moving the mouse wheel up and down, respectively. Additionally, you can change the sound device via the same procedure, only that you’re required to press the Alt key.
The second way to adjust volume is to move the mouse cursor over the Tray icon and simply scroll up or down to increase or decrease volume level, respectively.
A volume indicator is available too, but sadly iVol doesn’t allow users to change the pre-configured hotkeys, so you’re stuck with the aforementioned ones.
iVol doesn’t work on Windows versions newer than XP and although you can force it to launch on Windows 7 workstations, the mouse wheel doesn’t control the volume.
All things considered, this tiny app provides quite an interesting solution for those who don’t have a multimedia keyboard, but sadly it lacks the essential configuration options. You cannot change the default hotkeys and the app doesn’t work on newer Windows versions at all.
