JakPod

JakPod is a lightweight software application whose purpose is to help you transfer music from your computer to iPod, transfer audio and video files between two iPods, and copy songs and clips from the iPod to your system.
The program is built in Java so you need to firstly deploy the working environment on your computer.

User interface

The application doesn’t integrate a help manual but the layout is intuitive so you can easily get acquainted to its features.
The main window is split into two panes in order to handle the file transfer process (it looks just a like a file manager) and you can view detailed information about each file, such as artist, album, tittle, genre, year, rating, date when it was added, and user ID. Additionally, you can switch between a tree or list view mode display.

File transfer options

JakPod gives you the freedom to add audio and video files to your library, provided that they have the following file formats: MP3, M4A, M4B, M4P, MP4 or WAV. The same file formats can be used for copying files to your iPod.

Repair features

What’s more, you can create playlists, copy or delete the selected tracks, generate entries for all files found on the iPod that do not have the corresponding entries in the database, remove broken database entries, and delete all files from the iPod which are not listed in the database.
The tool lets you remove all sorting fields from the database, create sorting fields for all tracks based on iPod configuration data, generate complete album art entries, delete unreferenced entries from artwork files of your iPod and rebuild the entire artwork database, generate artwork from tags, show albums without artwork, and create a playlist with files without artwork. Backups can also be created.

Configuration settings

Several tweaking parameters help you apply a delay between attempts to detect newly connected iPods (in seconds), exclude certain partitions when searching for iPods, search for iPods in custom places, provide the path to your local library, enter the default path for files from iPod, set up file naming rules for files in iPod, disable warning messages, as well as copy DRM-protected tracks between iPods.
What’s more, you can make the utility copy artwork between iPods and on your computer, specify the saving directory for the artwork or copy artwork to album folder, and use a prefix for artwork filenames.
You can ignore custom words when sorting tracks, enter a default iPod name, as well as select the items that are copied, namely artwork, DRM-protected tracks, games and game data, contacts, calendars, notes and recordings. The looks of the utility can be altered using different color schemes.
