Java DNS Router Description
Java DNS Router is a Java-based software utility that you can use to allow DNS queries to be routed with regular expressions. It comes bundled with a light set of options for advanced PC users, such as network administrators.
No setup necessary, besides Java
As long as you have Java installed on your PC, you don't need to set up anything else. This means that you can drop the executable .jar file anywhere on the disk or on a removable storage unit, and just click it to launch the app on any computer. An important aspect worth keeping in mind is that, unlike most installers, it doesn't modify Windows registry settings.
Simple interface and options
Made from a normal-looking window with a simple structure, the interface lets you get started by creating a list with as many servers as you want.
In the following step, all you have to do is define domains and add them to any of the servers, as well as change their order in the list if necessary.
Log details with warnings and other information can be examined in the last pane, while the current configuration settings can be saved to file and later imported as a DNS router dataset. There are no other notable options available here.
Evaluation and conclusion
We haven't come across any stability issues in our tests, since the tool didn't freeze, crash or show error notifications. As we expected, it had minimal impact on computer performance, running on low CPU and RAM.
On the other hand, Java DNS Router doesn't have more advanced configuration settings for expert users. We should also take into account that it hasn't been updated for a long time.
