Java Notepad Description
Java Notepad is a simple-to-use word processor developed in Java that resembles Windows Notepad, as the name implies. It comes packed with a standard set of options for writing text and reserves some advanced functions for more experienced users.
No installation necessary
Provided that you have Java installed on the computer, it is only necessary to extract the program files to a custom location on the disk and just click the JAR file to launch the app. Another possibility is to save it to a USB flash disk or similar removable storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.
Worth taking into account is that the Windows registry and Start menu do not get updated with new entries, and no extra files are created on the disk without your permission, thus leaving it clean after program removal.
Clear-cut interface and options
The GUI is user-friendly, made from a classical window split into two panes, for navigating Explorer directories and writing text, respectively. It is possible to undo and redo actions, use a search function to locate particular blocks of text, enable word wrapping mode, change font properties, hide the tool and status bar, as well as change the interface style.
Documents can be exported to HTML, PDF, RTF or XML format. Meanwhile, XML docs can be converted to XLS or CSV, XLS to CSV, and CSV and XLS to XML. Files can be split too.
Evaluation and conclusion
There were no kind of issues in our tests, since Java Notepad did not hang, crash or display error messages. It executes commands rapidly while remaining light on the system resources. However, its set of features is not that impressive. Nevertheless, users are welcomed to try Java Notepad for themselves and find out whether it's a good match or not.
