JFileRecovery Description
JFileRecovery is a small application that can retrieve files from corrupted hard disks, CDs, DVDs, USB flash drives, and other devices. It was developed as a solution to the cyclic redundancy check (CRC) error.
Since this is a Java-based tool, JFileRecovery does not include a setup pack. It means that you can drop the JAR file anywhere on the hard disk and click it to run.
It is also possible to move the app to a USB flash disk to run it on any workstation with minimum effort, as long as it has Java installed.
An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry does not get new entries, and leftovers are not kept on the hard disk after eliminating the utility.
The interface is made from a single window where you can input a file using the file browser. After the target directory, file name and format are established, you can set the block size (in bytes) and timeout (in milliseconds), and finally initialize the recovery procedure. During this time you can view the processed file's name, size, failed and missing blocks.
JFileRecovery may take a while to finish a retrieval task, while using moderate system resources. We have not experienced any issues throughout our evaluation, as the utility did not hang or crash. Thanks to its intuitive layout and overall simplicity, even first-time users can seamlessly learn how to work with JFileRecovery.
