jMusicCreator Description

You can do just about anything with a computer fitted with the right hardware and software components. Music makes no exception here, and there are tons of application specialized into synthesizing sound to sound like real instruments, or oriented towards video games, and other kind of background audio, which is the case with jMusicCreator.

Can be used on the go

Before you can take the application for a spin, you need to know it relies on Java Runtime Environment to function. It can run right after download is done, which means you’re able to carry it around on a thumb drive, without having to worry that the target PC can get affected, since registries don’t need to be modified.
You won’t exactly end up in the hall of fame with a song created by this application. This conclusion can be easily reached, especially because of the shallow set of features you get to work with. There’s little to no sense of control over the generated tune, with the application doing most of the job.

Leaves more to be desired

Two sliders are at your disposal in order to easily configure tempo, and number of measures to use when generating the song. All changes need to be performed before the song is created. Apart from this, a drop-down menu lets you pick the desired key, with an additional option to only use diatonic chords.
The song is almost instantly generated, and the length is determined by the number of measures used. After a few trials, you notice there’s actually a single song for which you just adjust speed, and repetitive factor.
Export options let you create a MIDI files. With this in mind, it could have been useful to see an option to select from different types of instruments, especially because the default Windows library is pretty impressive.

To sum it up

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that jMusicCreator comes with good intentions, but the library of song patterns containing only one item, and no option to create your own has a considerable impact on practicality. There’s no real sense of control, and in the end, you simply change tempo, and measures for the same tune.
