Kopain

Among some of the common operations you can perform on a PC is to write text. Windows provides some simple, default options in this regard, but chances are you want to access all documents easier. As such, applications like Kopain provide an intuitive interface in which to take multiple notes, and organize them in a tree view.

Can be used on the go

On the bright side of things, the application skips you the whole time and effort needed to go through a setup process, enabling you to run it from the moment download is done. This means it can be used on other computers directly from a thumb drive, while registries remain intact during usage, thus not affecting the target PC’s stability.
The visual design is pretty minimalistic, with a side navigation panel to easily select a note from your archive, while the rest of the space is the actual text pad. Unfortunately, tree management of notes is rather frustrating, since you need to use the toolbar menu for every operation. Moreover, items can be moved only in the parent directory, and dragging them around is not an option.

Poor set of management, and editing options

File support can leave you disappointed too, because it’s only able to work with its own specific format. On the other hand, you can link external files and have them opened in the default viewer on access. Export, on the other hand, allows you to save under the XML file format.
As far as text itself is concerned, you can only work with plain format options. There’s no possibility to change the style, size, font, or color. Page arrangement options are missing as well. What’s more, the status bar isn’t fitted with any kind of indicators, such as line or character counters, not to mention word counters, or at least to show the current active line.

In conclusion, Kopain offers poor text editing capabilities, even if it’s only meant to help you take quick notes. File support is disappointing, especially since you can’t even work with plain text files. Edit options leave a lot to be desired, with no counters, indicators, let alone the possibility to change the text style.
