Kristal Audio Engine Description
Kristal Audio Engine is an application designed to offer you an environment that allows you to record audio and mix multiple tracks.
It displays a user-friendly interface and enables you to use a generous work area in which you can load audio files, arrange them in any way you want and create a new song. Kristal Audio Engine offers you 16 audio tracks which in general use are more than enough to help you create a decent song from multiple samples. Not to mention that every item you add per track, can be cut, resized and edited to a certain extent.
Running some numbers, you get a 32 bit floating point audio engine, 44.1 to 192 kHz sampling rate interval, a 3 band equalizer, 5 VST effect slots and 4 KRISTAL plugin slots. It all sounds good but as far as file format support goes, it’s limited to WAV, AIFF, FLAC and Ogg Vorbis. The same goes for the export format, you don’t have the possibility to save your project as an MP3.
You can insert audio samples or entire tracks with a simple click of a button. Once added to the work area, the application displays waveforms for the songs, allowing you to have a clear idea of how the beat and rhythm are distributed. In case things are unclear, you can zoom in as much as you need. This comes in handy when you need to align two or more samples so that their beats fit perfectly.
Kristal Audio Engine also offers you a decent mixer which you can use to control the volume of each individual channel that you have active, as well as add various effects. There is even a module of the application that allows you to control playback, cycle mode, and track snapping.
In closing, Kristal Audio Engine isn’t the most feature rich application of its kind, but it does provide a solid and practical work platform.
