LockKeys Description

Many laptops don’t have LED indicators for the status of the Caps and Num Lock keys, and even some desktop keyboards aren’t equipped with them, making it difficult to tell when either of them are active.
LockKeys is an interesting piece of software that can offer a solution, as it displays visual indicators for the Caps and Num Lock keys in the Windows taskbar. It is installed as a taskbar toolbar and can be enabled or disabled easily.

Easy enough to install, but we did encounter a minor issue during our tests

Unlike many other similar utilities, LockKeys does not come in the form of an application that needs to run in the background. Instead, it is installed as a taskbar toolbar by double-clicking the “register.bat” file. If you want to remove it, just execute the “unregister.bat” file.
While the installation went smoothly on one of our systems, an error message was triggered when attempting to set up LockKeys on another machine. We were still able to install and run it, however, so this may not be a major issue.

Integrates into the OS and doesn’t look out of place

Because LockKeys can be accessed from the taskbar toolbars menu, you can enable or disable it at any time with just a couple of mouse clicks. You don’t have to worry about running it on startup or cluttering the system tray area.
The status indicators also look great, and it is worth remembering that you can move them to any position on the taskbar. However, it is not possible to remove one of the icons, and no other visual styles are available.

Needs a bit of polish, but this is a very useful File Explorer extension

If you need an alternative method of checking the status of the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys, LockKeys is certainly a great choice. It enables you to add useful indicators to the Windows taskbar, but it still needs a few minor improvements.
