Longo DVD Ripper

Longo DVD Ripper is an easy-to-use utility developed to rip DVD content and turn it into various video formats, such as AVI, WMV, MP4 and MPEG. But it can also prepare media for playback on external devices like PS3, PSP, iPad, iPod and iPhone.

Rapid setup and user-friendly interface

Installing Longo DVD Ripper takes little time and minimal effort. It is wrapped in a user-friendly interface represented by a regular window with a neatly organized structure, where you can easily read a DVD source.
DVD titles are shown in the task list, along with the audio and subtitle stream, in addition to angle. You can preview media in a built-in player and handpick the exact items you want to convert while excluding the rest.

Change audio and video properties

Apart from specifying the output profile, file name and destination, it is possible to modify audio and video properties when it comes to the frame rate, volume level, resolution, quality and codec, among others. Longo DVD Ripper also implements an option for creating new output profiles and organizing them into different groups. However, settings cannot be reset to default.
Log and ISO files can be exported. In addition, you can change the UI theme and split mode, ask the app to load DVDs automatically when they're inserted into the PC, eject them when the job is done, play sound on task completion and turn off the computer immediately afterward, apply force to synchronize the audio and video streams, always ignore read errors, and so on.

Evaluation and conclusion

The program is pretty light when it comes to CPU and RAM, so it shouldn't put a strain on PC performance. It takes reasonable time to finish an encoding job and delivers fair quality videos. We haven't encountered any unpleasant surprises in our tests, since the tool did not hang, crash or pop up error messages. It serves its purpose, overall.
