MBRFix Description

Master Boot Record (better known as MBR) is a special type of boot sector located at the beginning of a hard disk and it stores details regarding the organization of partitions (where the file systems are located). MBRFix is a dedicated application that can help expert users perform various MBR tasks, including creating a backup for it.
It needs to be specified from the get-go that this tool should only be operated by experts as rookies might inflict too much damage to their computer to be fixed afterwards.
Furthermore, the app does not comes with a graphical user interface and its functions can only be accessed via command-line. Administrator privileges are also required in order to run MBRFix.
The application can be used to perform a wide range of actions, and some of them refer only to getting information about one’s hard disk, the partitions or the drive size in MB. Depending on the commands they type, users can save or restore MBR and partitions data to file, as well as delete all detected partitions.
In addition, MBRFix can be used to generate disk signature in MBR, to read or to write it, according to users’ needs.
Among the other partition actions that are supported, one could mention viewing the active partition, getting or setting its type, along with setting the current one as the active partition or listing the partition types.
Experienced users can also rely on MBRFix to flush files to disk for a certain partition or for extracting volume information about a user-specified partition.
To sum it up, MBRFix might not come with an appealing interface or intuitive menus, but this is probably meant to specifically discourage novices from using it - experts can surely appreciate its functions when it comes to changing partition types or save MBR data to a file.
