MD5 Check

MD5 Check is a straightforward piece of software you can use to quickly find out the MD5 checksum of a file, which is useful for verifying integrity and finding out if two files are different or the same. It has intuitive features that can be easily tackled, even by users with little or no previous experience in checksum tools.

How it works

Once the tool's launched, it puts a file browser at your disposal for locating and opening a file whose MD5 hash you want to find out. It's instantly calculated by MD5 Check and displayed in a small window, after which it offers to copy the alphanumerical value to the Clipboard.
Afterward, you can paste it in a text editor. Once you've discovered and pasted multiple MD5 checksums, they can be compared to find out if the two corresponding files match or not.
Apart from double-clicking the .exe to launch the application, you can also drop a file onto it in Windows Explorer, as well as call its process from a Command Prompt window, thanks to the fact that commmand lines are supported.

Portability benefits

The entire program's wrapped in a single .exe file that you can save anywhere on the disk or copy to a USB flash drive, in order to directly run it on any computer with minimum effort and no previous setup. It doesn't need DLLs or other components to run, create files on the disk without asking for your permission, or modify system registry settings. In order to uninstall it, you simply need to delete the executable.

Evaluation and conclusion

We haven't experienced any stability problems in our testing, since the utility didn't hang, crash or indicate errors. Tasks were quickly carried out while system resources usage remained minimal. Plus, MD5 Check is free and easy to use.
