Media Renamer Description
Media Renamer is an application that gives you the possibility to edit the ID3 tags of multiple MP3 audio tracks at the same time, as well as to rename files in bulk using their metadata.
It contains intuitive options that can be configured with ease even by inexperienced users.
Setup, prerequisites, and interface
It's get unpacked quickly and easily, since there are no special options or third-party offers bundled with the installation kit. However, you must have .NET Framework to be able to work with this app, since it was developed with the aid of Microsoft's platform.
When it comes to the interface, Media Renamer opts for a standard .NET Framework form with a simple design and layout, where you can either open one MP3 track at a time using the file browser, or select a folder to open all containing files with the MP3 format.
Edit ID3 tags and rename files in bulk
The task list shows the name, format, title, artist, album, track number, year, genre and full path of each file. You can edit any of these fields for one or multiple selected tracks at the same time, as well as assign cover art from local image files.
Meanwhile, files can be renamed in batch mode by defining a pattern using any ID3 tags. You can also use regular expressions, select the source (e.g. file name, path, title), and view the new names before applying changes. Help documentation is available.
Evaluation and conclusion
It didn't hog system resources in our tests, since it needed a low amount of CPU and memory to work properly. On the other hand, it frequently displayed errors when attempting to edit the ID3 tags of unsupported file types or performing other types of actions. It seems that Media Renamer needs more work when it comes to stability.
