Mog Description
Mog is a portable and open-source software application that enables you to control the mouse cursor using only your keyboard. It comes in handy in scenarios where your peripheral device is not working properly.
Systray accessibility
Once launched, Mog creates icon in the taskbar notifications area where it remains minimized while you use the keyboard for mouse functions. You can bring up its configuration panel to view the default hotkeys for various mouse actions, as well as turn the keyboard shortcuts into combinations you're more comfortable with.
Remap the keyboard shortcuts
Therefore, it's possible to modify the default key combination for activating Mog, moving the mouse (up, down, left, right), and clicking (left, right and middle click, double and triple click, no click, wheel up and down, dragging). Just make sure not to define the same shortcuts for two actions, as the program doesn't warn you of this when committing changes.
What's more, you can set the tool to highlight the pointer location when activated, hide areas that are off-limits, make hidden areas partially visible, as well as highlight remaining areas too. This configuration may be restored to default.
No setup necessary
Since this is a portable package, you can save Mog's executable file anywhere on the disk and just click it to run (an INI configuration file is created in the same directory as the app). Another possibility is to save it to a removable storage unit to be able to use it on any PC directly. Unlike most installers, it doesn't modify Windows registry settings.
Evaluation and conclusion
Unsurprisingly, it had minimal impact on the overall performance of the PC, since it required low CPU and RAM to function normally. However, it suddenly stopped working on several occasions during our tests, after we triggered the hotkeys a few times. It seems that Mog has some compatibility issues. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself.
