Mr QuestionMan Description

If you’re home right now, then there’s a high chance your headphones are pumping some sound into your ears. Keeping music on a computer can be a messy job, because downloading to different locations spreads files all over. Luckily, you can ask Mr QuestionMan a few things about your music files.

Simple interface quickly gets you up and running

The installation process only takes a little of your time and before you know it, the application is ready to go. It all starts off in a rather compact main window that looks an awfully lot like the old file explorer design. This isn’t a bad thing though, because it makes accommodation a walk in the park.
There aren’t any shiny visuals to make you lose focus and the only thing you can turn your attention to is the navigation panels. A smaller one is used to display a tree list view of all folders on your computer, while a simple selection unveils content in the rest of the space.

Far from being a pro

However, only audio files under formats like WAV, MPC, MP3, OGG, WMA, MP4, FLAC, APE, and a few more are shown, because songs are the main interest here. Once detected, these are shown in a list along with details like path, type, size, length, compression ratio, bitrate, encoder info, and some more fields. Clicking a column header filters all files there.
No other options are available in the default context menu other than the possibility to Export. This isn’t a converter like you might think, but opens up the path in your default navigation application.
There’s a settings menu hidden in the file menu. Sadly, it’s got little use, with the general tab only providing context menu integration and recursive scanning, while the last tab show a set of funny, but obsolete options you can check, with apparent results.

On an ending note

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Mr QuestionMan is not the one that holds the answers, but rather the questions, as the name suggests. Sure enough, it can provide a neat overview of audio files in a single folder, coming in handy for editors that are looking for specific parameters. However, many advanced, and even simple functions like a search engine are missing entirely, thus making overall practicality rather questionable.
