MSJVM Removal Tool Description

MSJVM Removal Tool is a lightweight utility issued by Microsoft that uninstalls the MS Java Virtual Machine. Even though support for MSJVM has been discontinued, the removal tool can still be used on machines that still accommodate this obsolete product.

A few words about Java Virtual Machine

Microsoft’s Java Virtual Machine was a proprietary software app designed for Internet Explorer in order to implement the capability to run Java applets.
After Sun Microsystems sued them for the faulty implementation of the Java standard, Microsoft agreed to phase out the product and officially dropped support in December 2007 (although updates were available until June 2009, as stated in the contract).
As such, Microsoft also halted the development of the MSJVM Removal Tool, which currently, is no longer hosted on their servers. The reason is that the tool might cause irreversible changes, which the company cannot take blame for.

Suited for network or system administrators

However, it was decided that the product should still be made available for advanced users such as network or system administrators and can be obtained via Microsoft’s Support Services if a bunch of criteria are met.
These conditions (which are also stated once you launch the removal tool) are gathered in what seems to be a disclaimer, stating that you take upon yourself certain risks and Microsoft is not responsible in any way for the consequences that may result after using their application.
Do not proceed with removing the MS Java Virtual Machine if there is a possibility that you may need it at a certain point; reinstallation will only be possible from an image that includes the product, since Microsoft will not be able to provide you with a solution for this (the disclaimer includes this condition).

Bottom line

In conclusion, extra care is required when using this tool. Make sure to carefully read all the conditions, or otherwise you may end up with a crippled machine.
