MusicBrainz Picard Portable Description
MusicBrainz Picard Portable is a light piece of software that enables you to tag your music collection using acoustic fingerprinting, which is a condensed digital summary generated from an audio signal and hence, it can be located quicker in a database.
Provides you with a flexible tag editor tool
Upon launch, the app can be confusing, especially for users who are not familiar with MusicBrainz. You should know that the application processes the files you want to tag and, in case they have not been tagged before, then it automatically moves them to the Unmatched Files folder. Respectively, if the tracks already come with a MusicBrainz identifier, they are opened in the right-hand pane.
The application enables you to edit the tags on the audio files using basic variables, such as _lenght, _rating, _dirname, _extension or _sample_rate, for instance. Alternatively, if you want to reflect the way certain samples connect with URLs outside of MusicBrainz, you can consider enabling the Advanced Relationships and get the extra tags.
Allows you to perform queries on MusicBrainz
A noteworthy feature of the program is the cluster function, as it automatically attempts to group up the files into albums by comparing the information available in the files' metadata. In case you have not used acoustic fingerprinting before, then you use the Automatic Lookup option to perform a query on MusicBrainz and find the best match possible.
It is worth mentioning that the application also enables you to perform manual searches on the open source music encyclopedia. The approach can sometimes prove beneficial, especially if you get not results from the automatic lookup. You should keep in mind that the manual query is not as time-consuming as it may seem at first sight, especially if you know a couple of information about your tracks and use the site's search function.
A handy utility for organizing and tagging your music collection
In the eventuality that you would like to take advantage of the fingerprint tab available on MusicBrainz pages, so that you can find a track, album or artist faster, then perhaps MusicBrainz Picard Portable could come in handy.
