However, you're strictly depending on signal to reach your computer and you never know what can happen. Either for a little more safety or an easier way to have important data at your fingertips, My Offline Browser comes as a neat solution to download entire websites for browsing when the Internet cannot be reached.
Initial wizard for quick project setup
In terms of visual design, the application sports a simple and clean look that doesn't pose any accommodation problems. Most of the space represents a preview of the URLs you select, a side panel serves as a quick navigation method through project elements, while the upper toolbar letting you initiate and manage processes.
Right from the start, a screen pops up in an attempt to make your work a little easier. It takes you through a few steps in which you need to provide one or more valid URL addresses, or attach a search engine, with some popular ones at your disposal and corresponding fields for target keywords, number of results to grab and a few advanced characteristics.
Batch processing and URL filters
Before putting the process in motion, you need to specify a destination folder for downloaded files. Make sure it's easy to reach and doesn't contain anything else, because it gets filled with a lot of different files. What's more, when writing down the URL, make sure to include everything, even the prefix (www), otherwise the site is rendered unreachable or invalid and isn't processed.
There's also the possibility to load external CSV or TXT files with lists of websites, as long as they're written down in a column. Hitting the “Start†button processes your settings and starts to download images, links and other files required for flawless offline navigation. Selecting items from the project navigation panel automatically opens them in your default corresponding application.
Accessing the general settings menu gives you the possibility to set up a proxy connection for a little more safety. Project properties let you apply URL filter so no ads or other unwanted pages to be grabbed. Sadly, there aren't any dedicated options to file types or to simply extract web pages as text.
On an ending note
All things considered, we can safely state that My Offline Browser comes in handy for downloading multiple web pages of interest for offline navigation, serving as a suitable means of grabbing research material or other various resources that depend on an active Internet connection. It feels a little rough around the edges overall, but for personal use it can get the job done fine.
