NEF to JPG

As the name implies, NEF to JPG is a software application which enables you to convert Nikon Raw images (NEF) to the JPG format. But it can also output items to the BMP, GIF, PNG or TIFF extension.

User-friendly layout

The program is wrapped in a standard interface with a simple-to-follow layout. Importing pictures into the file queue can be done by using either the file browser or folder view ('drag and drop' is not supported). Working with multiple entries at the same time is possible.

Conversion options

The file list shows the name and location for each item. In order to initialize the conversion procedure, all you have to do is establish the target folder.
In addition, you can view the images in an external program, as well as remove an item from the list or clear the entire file queue; these options are pretty much oriented toward less experienced users.

Performance and final thought

The simple-to-use image conversion program needs a low amount of CPU and system memory, has a good response time, completes a job briefly and delivers pictures with a good quality. We have not encountered any problems during our testing; NEF to JPG did not freeze, crash or pop up error dialogs.
On the other hand, you cannot make image adjustments (e.g. brightness, contrast), preview photographs in a built-in viewer or make the app open the output directory when all tasks are done. In other words, advanced users do not have too many possibilities at their disposal. But, although the tool comes with limited features, NEF to JPG delivers a straightforward solution for NEF-to-JPG conversions.
