Network Installation Wizard is a reliable and useful application whose main purpose is to modify setup information files in order to help users create a customized network installation of Office 97.
First thing first, when launching Network Installation Wizard you need to enter the .LST or the .STF file you want to customize. These extensions are known as setup files used by older versions of Microsoft programs such as Microsoft Word 6.0c, Microsoft Project 4.0 Standard Edition or Microsoft Excel 5.0 Standard Edition that do require special attention when installed on your operating system.
However, when installing Office 97 onto your computer, you need to make sure that your system meets all the requirements. And since Office 97 can be installed on older operating systems such as Windows 95 or Windows NT workstations, you probably know from experience that each installation process does require special attention, especially when it comes to outdated applications.
Therefore, if you plan to install Office 97 in batch mode, which means that no user interaction is required, the setup installs the software using all the default values you specify using Network Installation Wizard. On the other hand, if you want to install Office 97 in an interactive mode, the values that you set using Network Installation Wizard are presented as the default ones during Office 97 installation.
Still, before installing Office 97 you must know that it is highly recommended to copy the LST file from the Office 97 CD and save it to a unique destination folder on your PC where you can create a new STF file in a secure manner.
After specifying the values you want to customize and creating the STF file from the current LST file, you can use the setup.exe program, which can be found in the installation folder. After running setup.exe you can remove all existing components and install Office 97 with your personal customizations.
