Setting up the program is a fast and easy task which does not require special attention. As far as the interface is concerned, News Server Tester adopts a simple window with a neatly organized structure.
Input data and view information
All you have to do is specify the host name, port number, user name and password (if necessary), and click a button to start the analysis immediately. News Server Tester shows whether posting is allowed or not, the transfer speed, response time after login, possible connections, number of total available newsgroups, total articles, the most frequent newsgroup, and retention time.
There are no other noteworthy options available here. Unfortunately, News Server Tester does not implement options for copying data to the Clipboard, exporting it to file, or printing it for closer examination and safekeeping.
Evaluation and conclusion
The tool does not put a strain on computer performance, since it runs on low CPU and RAM. It had a good response time and did not hang, crash or pop up error messages in our tests. On the other hand, the tool has not been updated for a very long time, and it is likely to have compatibility issues with later operating systems.
