NexusTextView Description
NexusTextView is an approachable software application that facilitates a user-friendly interface for editing text documents. It supports programming and scripting languages, including syntax highlights for PHP, C++, Pascal, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL and Java, among others.
No setup necessary
There is no installation pack involved. Instead, you can copy the downloaded files to a custom directory on the disk or store them on a USB flash drive to be able to launch the utility on any computer without setup. It doesn't add new entries to the system registry, so it doesn't increase the risk of OS stability issues.
Open and edit text documents
NexusTextView is wrapped in a familiar interface made from a basic window with a menu bar for performing file, editing and viewing operations, in addition to accessing various tools. It displays line numbers and can saved documents as HTML files.
You can jump to a particular line, create and toggle bookmarks, wrap words, hide line numbers, use Bitmap font instead of Windows, as well as look up keywords and set advanced filters, namely case sensitive, whole words only, direction, and origin.
Syntax highlights, encoding methods, and hex display
Furthermore, you can enable automatic scrolling and adjust the speed, examine and modify file structure via hexadecimal display, pick the encoding method between ASCII, Unicode and UTF-8, make the main window transparent, set it to stay on top of other opened frames, as well as select a language to activate syntax highlighting for.
Recent files and the find history can be cleared. As far as program customization is concerned, it's possible to change the view margins, Windows and Bitmap fonts, basic and syntax highlighting colors, along with the external program used for editing files (default is Notepad).
Evaluation and conclusion
We haven't experienced any stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the tool didn't freeze, crash or prompt errors. It left a small footprint on system resources, running on a low amount of CPU and RAM.
Taking everything into account, NexusTextView offers a straightforward solution for viewing and editing text documents, backed by practical customization properties.
