Norton UAC Tool

Norton UAC Tool was a simple-to-use software application designed to replace the Windows Vista default UAC (User Account Control), in order to make the operating system more secure. UAC is a powerful technology implemented to restrict the access of utilities until they are given the green light by a PC user with administrative privileges.

Quick setup and familiar interface

The installation procedure was a fast and easy task which did not need special attention, after which Norton UAC Tool automatically replaced the default Windows feature.
The GUI had a clean and intuitive interface that resembled Windows UAC found in OS editions past Vista, with the most obvious difference being the dark theme adopted by Norton.

Easily managed the access of software applications

Once a window was prompted, the tool showed two buttons for allowing and canceling the respective application, along with some app details on the bottom part of the screen (e.g. full path), as well as if it was signed and if it existed in the protected directory.

Evaluation and conclusion

Norton UAC Tool did not put a strain on computer performance using low CPU and RAM. Its reaction time was very good and it did not hang, crash or pop up error messages in our evaluation.
Users should keep in mind that the product was discontinued in 2009 and it never got passed the beta development stage, so they are likely to find various bugs and stability issues. Although Norton UAC Tool was pretty good at its job, it is advisable to switch to a more reliable UAC replacement that receives regular updates.
