O&O SpeedCheck

Nowadays, when more and more users are making the transition to solid state drives, those who still own PCs that are equipped with traditional hard disk drives will have difficulties in keeping up. There are numerous software solutions that offer analysis capabilities for the hard drive performance and one of them is O&O SpeedCheck.
This application was created in order to help users assess the performance of their PCs by running a process that will simulate their operating system in two states: fragmented and defragmented. By simulating the two states, the application will read the data from users’ hard drives and it will run an in-depth analysis that will yield a potential improvement score.
O&O SpeedCheck works by simulating the reading of the files that are currently fragmented on users’ disks and by later on simulating the reading of the same files, in a defragmented state. In order to simulate how the operating system reads the files, the application performs the reading process according to the number of fragments each file is split into.
Once the assessment is completed, users will be met with a summary of the analysis process, that will offer both numerical and graphical performance indicators. The result will be offered in percentages and the utility will therefore offer a scoring for the potential increase, based upon the differences between the fragmented and defragmented states.
People can also understand the differences between the two states even more, by observing the different access times provided by the application in the analysis summary. In order to increase the test’s efficiency and eliminate any potential bias or scatter noise in the analysis from running applications and processes, the simulations are run five times each.
