OOo4Kids

OOo4Kids has been created as a simplified alternative of the OpenOffice suite that includes multiple modules for word processing, working with spreadsheets, presentations and databases.
The suite is adapted for children and sports five modules, Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw and Math. It lacks the complexity of the real package and, as such, there is a limited set of functions for each module.

Choose the office components

During the installation process there is the possibility to select the components of the suite as well as the optional ones, which include graphical filters and the quickstarter, a main screen that allows selecting the type of project to initiate.
Since this is the abridged version of OpenOffice the options that are most frequently used are easiest to access from the main application window.

Adjustable interface for quick learning

However, the interface is adjustable in order to fit the experience level of the user, allowing a minimalist view for the beginner and a complete interface for the more advanced ones. This applies for all components of the suite.
Basically, what OOo4Kids attempts is to provide the necessary environment for children to learn the functions available in an office package.
It also includes support for extensions, and most of them rely on those for the full-blown OpenOffice. These help users carry out tasks that are not supported by default in the bundle.

Simplified OpenOffice suite

OOo4Kids manages to reach its goal to provide children with a less complicated interface that can be configured to different experience levels.
It does not include all the functionality of the full-fledged package but it is a good start to help kids get accustomed with the options and benefits of an office suite in a non-complicated way.
