Orthos Prime Description
Even though stressing out your hardware can lead to permanent damage, running such an operation gives you an idea whether or not a device functions under normal parameters. Orthos Prime is a simple benchmark utility that allows you to test the stability of your system by performing a series of user-defined tests.
Mostly oriented towards experienced users
Although most similar software solutions are a lot more difficult to use and require complex configuration, Orthos Prime is different and even if it's not at all addressed to beginners, it's still easy to use by those more experienced.
Rookies may have a hard time figuring out how to use it especially because of the available types of tests, as there's not even a help file included in the package to lend them a hand in case of problems.
Multiple test cases available
The main window is pretty simple and lets you see the start time of the tests, duration, CPU speed, rounds, configure process priority and pick one of the available tests.
There are five different tests at you disposal, namely small FFTs to stress the CPU, large in-place FFTs to stress some RAM, blend which stresses both CPU and RAM, stress CPU for stressing CPU with Gromacs core and custom.
Cease all other activities when process is active
Once you press the “Start†button, the application seriously slows down the system, just like any other benchmark utility, so keep in mind that you need to close all the other running apps before doing so. Also, it's recommended to avoid working on the system while performing tests to get the best possible results.
Even if it's so simple, Orthos Prime works like a charm on all Windows workstations, without the need for administrator privileges when being used on Windows 7 or 8.
In conclusion
Overall, Orthos Prime is a tiny tool that does its job but although it's not addressed to beginners, it still needs a help manual to assist users in case they get themselves into trouble. However, if carefully managed and the process is successful, provided info is of great help for those who seek it.
