Pass Vault Plus

If you're not really into cloud-based password managers (vaults), then you can always turn to more basic utilities that store your credentials within local databases, for example, Pass Vault Plus.

A run-of-the-mill password vault

As its name makes it transparent, Pass Vault Plus is a novice-accessible utility that allows you to securely store your credentials.
The application does not require installation, but please note that Java must be present on your computer's system. Since it's Java based, it's not limited to Windows, as it can be run just as easily on other popular OSes out there such as macOS and Linux.

Clear-cut and no-nonsense UI

It sports a distraction-free, tabbed GUI with standard Java elements. The main element that stands out is the top toolbar with large buttons that provide you with a quick way to access the main features.
Overall, the GUI does a good job at allowing you to make the most of this app but it's a shame that it does not provide you with a quicker way to close the tabs (for example, by double clicking them or with the help of a contextual menu).

Not exactly impressive regarding its feature repertoire

In the features department, the most noteworthy capability of Pass Vault Plus is, of course, the fact that it uses an AES 128-bit encryption standard to make sure that your data stays as safe as possible.
It's also worth mentioning the fact that this utility can also compress your password database, for an added level of security as well as file size reduction.

Average Java-based password manager

To conclude, Pass Vault Plus is clearly not the best password manager out there. It's depended on Java, it does not have an intuitive password generator, and it does it's not exactly feature-rich.
Nevertheless, this is not to say it isn't useful, as its basic feature set makes it ideal for users who simply want a straightforward local password manager.
