Portable Keyndicate

Designed as the portable edition of Keyndicate, this tiny portable application has one purpose in mind: it tells you whether the NumLock, ScrollLock or CapsLock keys are pressed or not. It comes in handy to users who do not have indicators for them built into the keyboard.

Portability advantages

Since there is no installation involved, you can put the program files in any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to launch the app.
Another possibility is to save Keyndicate to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC easily and with minimum effort. An important aspect worth taking into account is that the Windows registry and Start menu do not get updated with new entries, and no extra files are created on the disk, thus leaving it clean after removal.

Accessibility via the system tray

At startup, Keyndicate creates an icon in the taskbar notifications area which indicates the current status of the NumLock, ScrollLock and CapsLock keys. By bringing up its right-click menu it is possible to freeze its activity until further notice.

Show notifications on key presses

Left-clicking the tray icon reveals additional options. For example, you can ask Keyndicate to show notifications every time one of the keys is pressed, specify the time to wait before closing the dialogs (in seconds), as well as make the tool automatically run at Windows startup.

Evaluation and conclusion

The app supports multiple languages and several styles for the icon. It has a good response time to commands and, as expected, it runs on low CPU and RAM, so it does not affect the overall performance of the computer. No error dialogs were shown in our tests, and the tool did not hang or crash.
